In July every year the locals have 4 days festival in Suðureyri and hundreds of former residents visits the village with their tents, trailers and campers and take part in all kinds of games and dances. The main contest is when all the children compete in a 1 hour fishing contest in the harbor. This fishing contest started for over 20 years ago in Suðureyri and many other fishing villages around Iceland have copied this amusing contest with grate results.
